Students will learn how to create interesting compositions using spontaneous methods.  Watercolor is very fluid when using the wet on wet techniques that produce unique results.  Students will mix colors that, because of the fluidity of wet on wet, will create forms – but minus detailing.  As detailing is added, paintings will take on their own unique identity that will enhance the individualtiy of each students composition.  Techniques will be taught through demonstrations that will reflect these creative approaches in the use of doing spontaneous watercolor.

These are the materials you need to acquire for class

  1. Round brushes for detailing (two different sizes, 6 and a 4), a liner brush
  2. Flat brush that is 1” (Don’t buy a very expensive one.)
  3. A mop brush for spreading water for wet on wet.
  4. Mixing palette, one with a cover is good, with a number of wells for placing your paint in.
  5. Pad of watercolor paper 9×12, 140 lb. weight
  6. The following colors:
Cobalt blue, French ultramarine blue, Burnt sienna, Neutral tint, Lemon yellow, Cadmium red, Prussian blue, Burnt umber, Purple, Yellow ochreI’ll provide other colors that may be needed.You don’t need to the most expensive colors like Windsor & Newton.  Smaller tubes okay rather than large ones.You can buy colors on line at DickBlick.com, cheapjoes.com  or jerrysartarama.com   Michaels as well.  (Amazon Prime is a place as well.
  1. HB and 2H pencil, kneaded eraser
  2. You can bring colors or anything else you may already have as well.
  3. I’ll provide what to place your watercolor paper on when we paint.
  4. Artist tape or tape painters use when protecting edges – 1/2 wide. Painter’s tape works fine and recommended, blue, green whatever the color.
  5. Masking Fluid12.  Bring a container for your water.
