Beginner-friendly. Part of the Elegant Dinnerware Series — attend all four sessions to create a complete handmade dinnerware set.  Begin your handmade dinnerware journey by creating a beautiful, functional bowl with a decorative twist. In this class, you’ll learn how to build a footed bowl using soft slabs and add a textured rim to make it uniquely yours. We’ll explore simple templates, foot attachments, and texture tools to help you create a bowl perfect for soup, salad, or a cozy pasta dinner.

Students will hand build with clay adding texture and design and then choose a glaze color from the available selection. The instructor will bisque fire student work, apply the glaze, and then glaze fire the work before it is returned to the student to take home. All glaze is food safe. Students will be notified when the pieces are ready to be picked up which is expected to be within 2-3 weeks of the class.

With a joyful heart and clay-covered hands, May Lucas brings over a decade of pottery experience—and a lifetime of artistic curiosity—to the studio. May founded Elegant & Earthy, a brand rooted in handmade beauty, warm hospitality, and soulful creativity. Her work reflects a love for nature, storytelling, and the art of entertaining at home.  After years of teaching at Spruill Center for the Arts in Georgia and hosting private lessons in her studio, May now shares her passion for wheel throwing and hand-building in Pennsylvania. Whether you’re creating your very first mug or crafting a complete dinnerware set, her teaching style is thoughtful, encouraging, and always full of heart.  Known for her signature techniques—like vinyl cutout embellishments and layered underglaze designs—May blends refined craftsmanship with playful exploration. Her classes are more than just lessons—they’re community-centered gatherings where students are invited to create, connect, and celebrate their artistic voices.  Whether you’re a first-timer or building on experience, this class offers supportive instruction, creative techniques, and the joy of throwing with confidence.
