This course teaches students to expand their depth of knowledge of colored pencil. Students will explore the various skills and techniques of using quality colored pencils to create colorful renditions of various subject matter. Students will acquire first-hand knowledge from expert explanation and watching live demonstrations via document camera projected to large screen. Techniques such as hatching, crosshatching, scumbling, burnishing, and layering will be shown and applied to studies. Students will also learn other facets such as solvent usage for blending colored pencils.

Students will apply their gained knowledge of material usage and technique to create improved drawings.

About the Instructor

Stanley Gilmore Stanley Gilmore Jr. holds a BFA in Art Education of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and an MS in Instructional Technology from Towson University. Mr. Gilmore is a retired MD art teacher with 38 years of experience teaching elementary through high school. He’s also in art instructor at the Adams County Arts Council. He teaches classes at the HAAG in a variety of mediums to a spectrum of ages and artistic abilities to meet the needs of all students. As an artist, he’s had a number of one man shows, has illustrated the public libraries of Carroll Couty, MD, and continues to show a spectrum of artworks at the HAAG.
